State workplace safety agency fines multiple California state prisons for COVID violations

BLYTHE, Calif. - The state agency that oversees workplace safety has fined a total of eight prisons in California for COVID violations, resulting in a maximum citation total of nearly $700,000, a review of Cal-OSHA records show.
The most recent prisons cited are Chuckawalla Valley State Prison for $39,100; Ironwood State Prison for $57,800, both of which are in Blythe, Calif.; and the California Rehabilitation Center in Norco, Calif. for $100,750. All the institutions are in Riverside County.
OSHA issued the fines on Feb. 26, for alleged violations that occurred roughly six months prior. The first two investigations were accident-initiated. The final citation was issued after a death occurred at the Norco prison. ....

Cal/OSHA Fines Three Bay Area Employers for COVID-19 Violations

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health has issued citations to three Bay Area employers for not protecting workers from COVID-19.
The largest fine of $24,500 was levied against the California Prison Industry Authority for violations at its Vacaville site, following the report of a worker there who became seriously ill and another who tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The state cited the authority for three serious violations after finding deficiencies in protection programs that exposed employees to the virus, according to Cal/OSHA.

Cal/OSHA Issues Citations to Multiple Employers for COVID-19 Violations

Oakland, CA (WorkersCompensation.com) - Cal/OSHA has cited multiple employers for not protecting workers from COVID-19 following inspections in various industries throughout the state. Violations were identified in industries including construction, garment, correctional institutions and medical. Cal/OSHA opened the inspections after learning of COVID-19 fatalities and illnesses, and after receiving complaints. The full list of employers cited for COVID-19 violations is posted on Cal/OSHA s website.
The inspection at the Los Angeles Apparel factory occurred after reports of an outbreak, including six employees who died from COVID-19 complications. Cal/OSHA determined that Los Angeles Apparel intentionally did not report the COVID-19 fatalities.
