The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has approved a $25,000 Grants for Arts Projects award to MacDowell, the nation’s first artist residency program, to provide critical support for an artist working in one of MacDowell’s various disciplines. The grant will provide a first-time Fellowship to an artist, assisting MacDowell in meeting the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic as it continues to offer artists from all over the United States ideal workspace and time to expand their creative practices in 2021. This grant is one of 1,073 projects across the country, totaling nearly $25 million, selected by the NEA during this first round of fiscal year 2021 funding in the Grants for Arts Projects category. ....

Kentucky Folklife Program receives NEA grant to further statewide outreach project

The Kentucky Folklife Program, in the Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology at WKU, has been awarded $20,000 by the National Endowment for the Arts to further its Kentucky Folklife Network magazine project and continue its efforts to work with community scholars and others involved in community-based documentation to share their cultural research statewide. 
“It is an honor for the KFP to be recognized again by the NEA for our work helping to share the voices of Kentuckians from across the Commonwealth,” said Kentucky Folklife Program Director Brent Bjorkman. “Last year with funding from the NEA and the efforts of our KFP team, a Kentucky Folklife Network and digital platform were created, and so far we have produced two editions of the magazine. Portland Stage has been approved for a $20,000 Grants for Arts Projects award to support the Clauder Competition for New England Playwrights. Portland Stage’s project is among 1,073 projects across America totaling nearly $25 million that were selected during this first round of fiscal year 2021 funding in the Grants for Arts Projects funding category.

New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center to Highlight Women's Work


Women have always played a big role in the world of commercial fishing, and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts will help the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center highlight their work at sea and on shore.
Women s Work: At Sea, On Shore, At Home, In the Community will use photography, film, music, poetry, and storytelling to highlight the often-untold stories of women in commercial fishing communities.
The $15,000 NEA grant, which requires a local match, is among 1,073 grants awarded to local arts projects across the country, representing nearly $25 million in federal funding.
From March through December 2021 in New Bedford, gallery exhibits and programs will explore the lives, skills, and experiences of women who work in the fishing industry, as well as the work of those who are connected through family. ....

The Lotus Education & Arts Foundation has been approved for a $20,000 Grants for Arts Projects award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
The grant funds will contribute to the 2021 Lotus World Music and Arts Festival, supporting free programming that will help Lotus offer diverse multicultural music and arts experiences to underserved and economically disadvantaged groups within the community.
