Two Red Raiders Get Picked in 4th Round of MLB Draft Texas Tech baseball has been well represented in the MLB draft over the past decade with dozens of players being selected by Major League organizations out of Texas Tech in the Tim Tadlock era at Texas Tech and before. With a couple of Red Raiders turning heads in the Minor Leagues though, the steam to pick a Texas Tech prospect could actually ratchet up a bit. Caleb Killian is lighting it up with the Giant s AA team the Richmond Flying Squirrels, Gabe Holt is putting the work in with a Brewers affiliate the Carolina Mudcats, and of course, Josh Jung is currently the Texas Rangers number one prospect. ....

Atlanta began the day selecting a two-way player, Spencer Schwellenbach out of Nebraska in the second round with the 59th pick overall. Schwellenbach pitched and played shortstop but Braves scouting director Dana Brown made it clear that the team sees him as a pitcher going forward and were excited to get him. “The plan was, of course, as always to take the best player available,” Brown said. “We were actually very excited, because we had some first round numbers on Schwellenbach and he was there in the second round so we were really excited to get him.” ....
