TAIPEI (Taiwan News) Over 320,000 Wuhan residents visited city cemeteries over just one weekend a full two weeks before the official Tomb Sweeping Festival.
On March 22, China s Chutian Metropolis Daily reported that from March 20 to 21, over 320,000 people had already visited cemeteries and graveyards ahead of the normal peak period. This marks the first time that Wuhan residents were able to pay respects to their deceased family members since the start of the pandemic, as the city was in its final week of lockdown during the festival in 2020. ....

TAIPEI The owner of a construction truck that caused Taiwan s worst rail accident in decades, killing 48 people, apologized in tears while being led away from his home by police on Sunday. The unmanned truck’s emergency brake was not properly engaged, according to the government’s disaster relief center.
An investigation is underway as to how exactly Lee Yi-Hsiang s vehicle slid down onto the tracks Friday from a nearby construction site on the mountainous coast of eastern Hualien county. The truck was hit by a passenger train carrying 494 people, which derailed just before entering a tunnel, crushing many passengers inside the mangled train carriages. ....

The man who owned the unmanned construction truck which on Friday slid onto train tracks, causing a derailment in Taiwan that killed nearly 50 people and injured almost 200, apologized tearfully Sunday.
Lee Yi-Hsiang spoke out while police escorted him from his residence in Hualien, near the site of the fatal accident, The Associated Press reports.
“I have caused a serious accident on the Taiwan Railway Administrations’ Taroko train number 480 this year’s Tomb Sweeping Holidays, causing deaths and injuries, to this I express my remorse and my sincerest apologies,” said Lee, also the manager of the construction site from which the vehicle slid down. ....

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) The 2021 Yuguang Island Art Festival, which features the work of 13 artists, will run through April 18 in Tainan s Anping District.
With the theme of Dwelling On the Island, the event aims to heal visitors during the pandemic with works focused on such topics as the woods, the sunset, and the beach. The large-scale art installations were created by both Taiwanese and Japanese artists.
The organizers hope the exhibitions, performances, and outdoor dining experiences will have a healing effect. ....
