Hartman, who was connected to Dlo through fellow Trini and 2020 Groovy Soca Monarch winner College Boy Jesse, says he was drawn to the combination of tones and instruments in the production.

All the elements identified with “the greatest show on earth” were on parade. Veterans and youths, representing the steelbands – CAL Skiffle and Skiffle Protégés – horn and rhythm sections, calypso, soca, chutney soca, sailors, gorillas and Indian mas, all characterised the moment. The blue devils were prevented from making a stage appearance out of concern that their powder would stain the floor. Kaisoca moko jumbies towered at the entrance of the venue to welcome guests for the three-hour-long concert, Tempo in San Fernando.

Carnival Tempo coming in San Fernando Nadia Batson - ONE southern steelband plans to maximise the time slot usually reserved on the Carnival calendar for the Calypso Fiesta show to stage an event targeting local and international audiences. CAL Skiffle Steel Orchestra will create an alternative event to help ease the Carnival tabanca and reconnect nationals and the diaspora with their favourite artistes via a virtual space. Calypso Fiesta, the annual calypso picnic where thousands would have gathered to hear and critique the cream of the calypso crop, from among whom finalists would have been chosen for the Calypso Monarch, was scheduled for February 6 at Skinner Park, San Fernando.

While many events have been kept to the virtual realm – with the reopening of performance spaces – smaller live events have been happening again.
