Iowa Regents: UI, ISU, UNI to see flat allocations next fiscal year

Iowa s three public universities won t see increases in general education funding or a freeze in tuition, as were proposed earlier in the legislative session, per a bill that awaits Gov. Kim Reynolds signature.
The funding package covers fiscal year 2022, which begins July 1, and has passed both chambers of the state Legislature. The proposal, which Republicans included in their approximately $1 billion education budget bill, passed the Senate Tuesday by a 28-17 vote. It also passed the House by a 54-35 vote.
Republicans said the proposal would help give parents a greater voice in school decisions. But Democrats criticized it as micromanaging school districts, condemning the measure along with other school accountability measures Republicans included in the bill. ....
