TAFE SA regional boards considered

THE STATE Government will consider the establishment of regional TAFE SA boards after a successful motion introduced by independent MP Troy Bell was unanimously backed in Parliament.
After almost three years of advocacy, the Member for Mount Gambier’s push to abolish the centrally-operated TAFE SA board is one step closer as the government indicated it will consider reforming the vocational provider.
Mr Bell’s three-part motion also sought a commitment regional TAFE SA campuses be accountable and responsive to country communities.
The long-time campaigner for TAFE SA decentralisation has previously said there is a strong desire to return to local boards of management – similar to the regional health structure that has been established – and investigate opportunities to expand training currently offered in the region. ....

Female workforce driving Unley High School build
The $32.5 million expansion of Unley High School is moving full steam ahead, as part of the Marshall Liberal Government’s record $1.3 billion education build.
Led by an 80 per cent female team, comprising project engineers, site engineers, construction workers, contract administrators and site administrators, the project delivering at least 117 local jobs.
Following International Women’s Day, Education Minister John Gardner visited the site to view progress and recognise the contribution of large female workforce working on the project.
“The Marshall Liberal Government is focused on creating jobs to keep South Australia safe and strong in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, and our record-breaking $1.3 billion investment in education infrastructure is delivering thousands of construction jobs at a crucial time for our economy,” said Minister Gardner. ....

Regional board revisited

MEMBER for Mount Gambier Troy Bell has renewed calls for an overhaul of TAFE SA to decentralise the vocational education and training provider and establish regional boards of management.

Following almost three years of advocacy, Mr Bell has continued his push to abolish the centrally-operated TAFE SA board and install regional boards across the state to ensure the organisation provides education and training services that meets the needs of country communities.

The independent MP was recently joined by Shadow Education Minister Blair Boyer in a roundtable discussion with Di-Monty Training Solutions managing director Di Ind, Group Training Employment general manager Greg Megaw and other stakeholders to discuss the vocational training needs of regional industry.
