A year of innovations in school education


Chandigarh, December 30
School education has been among the top performers for Punjab in facing the challenges of the Covid outbreak this year. Catering to more than 60 lakh students in approximately 25,000 schools, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) faced the never-seen-before challenges of enrolment, teacher training, teaching, teacher-student interaction and complacency.
And, for the first time, everything had to be done online. Besides internet on normal computers, the exercises were designed for smartphones.
The first roadblock was getting the teachers ready for computer education. The department introduced Ghar Baithe Sikhiya for digital education through TV/ radio channels and YouTube. Teachers were taught to use the Punjab Educare App and training sessions were organised at the Indian School of Business. ....

Holding offline exams dangerous : IKGPTU students write to Amarinder, urge to roll out online option
Holding offline exams could be dangerous amid a pandemic that has been eating into one s lives, students of the I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (PTU) said as they raised concerns about their safety.
In a poll conducted by the India Wide Parents Association, 4,505 participants voted. About 94.6 per cent of them favoured online examinations. The parents body, representing students concerns, sent a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla. 
The students of the colleges affiliated to I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University are in a great dilemma because of the unfair decision of the university to conduct offline examinations during the pandemic whereas every other university has given the choice of online mode as well, the letter stated.
