The Bayonne School District created a new assistant superintendent position at the Board of Education meeting on Jan. 26.
According to Superintendent of Schools John Niesz, the district’s Special Education Department faces “extensive, persistent and complex” issues. There are 1,500 special education students, or approximately 15 percent of the school population.
“This is obviously a significant number of students who require concentrated attention,” Niesz said, calling for the creation an Assistant Superintendent of Special Services position, which “would not only take charge of this entire educational area, but this position will create a clear understanding for the staff and the community of the importance the district places on education.” ....

Lynwood Unified Makes Plans to Shift Campus Instruction to Address Lynwood High School Structural Concerns

Lynwood – In an effort to support student and staff safety, Lynwood Unified is planning to physically move instruction off Lynwood High School’s campus in 2021-22 as the District works to resolve structural issues discovered after exterior ceiling panels collapsed on campus in June 2020. The Board of Education discussed plans moving forward based on a staff facilities update and recommendation during a Jan. 24 special Board of Education meeting.
Students have been learning virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020. Following the breach in June, the District hired an engineering team to review the reliability of the school’s G Building, built in July 2000, and to determine the extent of repairs.
