Tuesday marks National Teacher Appreciation Day, so leading up to the big occasion, we had to ask: Who was your favorite teacher, growing up? What made that person so special and memorable?
The responses came pouring in and they were
so heartfelt and touching.
We’ve compiled a bunch, in hopes that perhaps the mentioned educator will get some recognition (so TAG that person if you recognize a name or school district!), and perhaps to serve as some inspiration: for future teachers, parents who are having to teach their children virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation or maybe just to put a smile on your face. In an effort to ensure that schools are well-staffed, KZN Education has concluded the placement of some 700 educators to schools that need them.

The Department says it identified 961 surplus educators last year.
Spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says action will be taken against those who don’t report for duty. 
They are required to assume duties today. failure to do so, appropriate actions will be taken. We are appealing to schools and school governing bodies not to refuse these educators as this is illegal.   ....

Muscat, oCT 10 - With an alarming increase in the number of children falling prey to harmful video games, GCC educator Shahnaz Bahman has devoted an entire session on online safety awareness in her latest book.
A part of the series called ‘Life Skills’, the book looks at developing emotional and social intelligence.
The sixth book is aimed at sixth graders and covers topics such as My Success, My Feelings, My Family, My Friends, iSafe and My Learning Styles Survey.
The online safety awareness focuses on cyber bullying. The author, who hails from Bahrain, said, “Research shows the number of teenagers committing suicide because of cyber bullying has risen globally. We hear stories in schools every day. The problem is that we are not teaching the children the right skills.” ....

“Online classes, online exams,” chanted students across Pakistan in early 2021 as they took to the streets to protest against plans to conduct in-person examinations during the pandemic.
The protests went far beyond the usual complaints about examinations as students raised a number of concerns around the effectiveness of online learning, the safety of in-person examinations and, most importantly, whether their performance would be assessed fairly.
The protest shone a light on assessment, a key aspect of teaching and learning that rarely gets attention. When we hear the word, assessment, it is common to think of rows of students taking a standardised examination in a large hall, but the true scope of assessment is much broader as it refers to the entire system that seeks to measure whether the goals of education are being met. ....
