The High Court yesterday directed Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) to snap within next six months water supply connections to those buildings and structures which release sewage wastes directly into the Buriganga river.
Besides, the court heavily rebuked Dhaka Wasa Managing Director Taqsem A Khan for providing water supply connections to those buildings which don t have sewage lines and septic tanks and are directly releasing wastes into the Buriganga and polluting its water.
The HC said there is no provision under the Wasa Act, 1996 and Wasa Rules, 2011 for providing water supply connections to structures not having sewage lines and septic tanks, but the Wasa provided connections to such buildings and structures in violation of the law and rules. ....

The High Court today directed Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) to disconnect the water supply of those buildings dumping sewerage waste into Buriganga river within the next six months.
Besides, the court heavily rebuked Managing Director of Dhaka Wasa Taqsem A Khan for supplying water to buildings which have no sewerage lines.
There is no provision under the Wasa Act, 1996 and the Wasa Rules, 2011 for giving water supply to structures which have no sewerage lines and septic tanks, but Wasa has given them connections in violation of the law and rules, the HC said. ....

The High Court today directed the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to conduct an inquiry into the allegations against Chattogram Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) Managing Director AKM Fazlullah over his involvement in corruption, irregularities and nepotism at his office.
The court also issued a rule asking the government and ACC to show causes in four weeks why their inaction to take action against AKM Fazlulullah should not be declared illegal.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman came up with the order and rule following a writ petition filed on September 20 last year seeking its directives on the ACC to take appropriate action against Chattogram Wasa MD Fazlullah. ....

Expressing serious concern over the current levels of air pollution in Dhaka, the High Court today issued three new directives on the authorities concerned to keep this pollution in check.
If the current level of air pollution is not reduced, public health will be at risk, the HC said while passing the order on a writ petition. 
Among the new directives, the HC asked the director general of Fire Service and Civil Defence to take necessary steps to spray water from its vehicles on urgent basis in the city s entry points including Gabotli, Jatrabari, Purbachal, Keraniganj and Tongi. ....
