Wilton board OKs roofing bid, discusses broadband initiative

WILTON The Select Board on Tuesday evening approved a $23,500 roofing bid by Arctic Roofing General Contractors based out of Lewiston for the water department’s building.

Water and Sewer Department Superintendent Heinz Gossman presented six bids to the board with Arctic offering the least expensive option.
The public works quarterly report was also approved stating there were 23 winter-related events as of Feb. 9 with the highest snow accumulation recorded at 12 inches.

The report also stated that Consolidated Communications will be transferring wires on Weld Road telephone poles, which prompted Selectperson Phil Hilton to ask about moving additional wires. ....

WILTON The Select Board voted on Tuesday, Feb. 2, to proceed with Maine Rural Water’s feasibility study to assess the possibility of combining the North Jay and Wilton water districts.
“That’s going to take two to four months and it’s going to be about $4,000 to $6,000 dollars,” Water and Sewer Department Superintendent Heinz Gossman said.
The town has secured a grant that will pay 50% of the study’s cost and the remainder will be split between North Jay and Wilton. ....

Wilton seeking funding for sidewalk improvements

WILTON The Select Board on Dec. 15, approved Town Manager Rhonda Irish’s pursuit of grant funding for Depot Street sidewalk which would coincide with the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) paving work to begin in 2021.
The sidewalk rehabilitation would range from the intersection of Depot and Main Streets at Academy Hill to just past the Forster Mill site. The DOT will be paving from Route 2 to Main Street, Depot Street and Weld Road.
Through the Municipal Partnership Initiative program (MPI), 60% of the sidewalk reconstruction costs would be covered by the state. Through another grant program, the state would cover 70% of the engineering design cost. ....
