Pilot youth earns Eagle rank | Mt. Airy News

Last Friday evening, more than a year after J.T. Tucker’s Eagle Scout project was completed and officially approved, his accomplishment was recognized in a small, private ceremony held at Millennium Charter Academy.
The ceremony had been delayed by restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project was approved in March of 2020, just before Tucker’s 17th birthday and shortly before scouting activities were suspended.
Tucker, now 18, is the son of Timmy and Mandy Tucker of Pilot Mountain. The couple also has a 10-year-old daughter, Michaela.
Tucker had chosen as his Eagle Scout project the replacement of the playground equipment, including mulch and landscaping, at his church. He and his family attend Gospel View Baptist in Dobson, where his parents serve as leaders in the youth program. ....

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. Ronald Keith Carpenter, formerly of Chester, passed peacefully, in the presence of his loving family, at his home in Fort Washington, Md., on Thursday evening, January 28, 2021. 83 years old, Keith was born in East Liverpool on January 20, 1938, a son of the late William Warden Carpenter and Fanny Lenore Buchanan Carpenter.
Raised in Chester, he was a member of the 1955 graduating class of Chester High School. After graduation, Keith served our great country with the US Air Force where he was a member of the Strategic Air Command. Following his service to our country, he joined the US Department of Navy as a civilian photographer for the Office of Naval Intelligence. A lifelong supporter of Scouting, Keith received his Eagle Scout Badge in Chester and served as a Scout Master in Maryland for more than 20 years. A masterful piano player who could play any tune that he heard by ear, and he recently was a huge fan of Ballroom Dan ....

In all the rhetoric about identity poltics and what someone identifies as I find myself reflexively resisting the concept of identity. I do not resist on the basis of assuming a completely level political playing fields, or ignoring the reality of various subcultures, but simply because I am not used to being paid much attention anywhere outside my immediate family. No reputation, no identity.
I mean it s not like I didn t actually
have a reputation, but it was for being a Real Smart Kid and also quiet enough to be considered mute, and retiring enough that I completley missed the boat when it came to learning how to make friends outside of specific organizational structures. So after the fourth grade I forgot about my reputation as a Real Smart Kid and didn t really have any kind of social network of peers outside of Boy Scouts, which wasn t my idea to join in the first place, so once I got my Eagle Scout B ....
