Home weatherization program aims to lower utility bills for Washtenaw County residents

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI Washtenaw County’s Office of Community & Economic Development is currently accepting applicants for its home weatherization program.
Weatherization, or weatherproofing services, protect a building and its interior from the elements to reduce energy consumption and optimize energy efficiency.
The county deploys this program each year in hopes to reduce energy costs for low-income households by increasing the energy efficiency for renters and homeowners. By reducing home energy use, the service can lower utility bills by 30%, officials said.
The services conserve energy use, lower utility bills and make homes more comfortable in both winter and summer months. A Building Performance Institute-certified energy auditor will conduct the initial inspection or energy audit on a person’s home. ....
