I had never interviewed a fighter pilot before my visit to the Fort Worth Aviation Museum last Saturday, but I knew the stereotype: brash, cocky. I knew I would have to match their machismo to get them to talk. So I walked up to Maj. Rick Bates and Capt. Garry Goff, both Air Force retirees seated on metal patio furniture in the weedy museum lawn surrounded by larger-than-life jets, and accused them of going to seed while my tour guide, John Ezrow, a retired Lockheed engineer and the museum’s head docent, showed me around because he’s the one who really knows what he’s talking about. ....

Addison Prepares for Annual Kaboom Town! Event

“We’re excited that so many of them are back open in full force and hosting these watch parties – bring people out to celebrate and see that they’re back in business and running again,” said Lee.
Organizers say Kaboom Town! is even more special now after the cancellation of it last year due to COVID-19.
“2020 was hard on everyone from individuals, to restaurants, our hotels– it hit everyone hard, and everyone is so excited to be coming out of that and to some sense of normalcy,” said Lee.
A highlight this year - a patriotic Freedom Flyover featuring warbirds from the Cavanaugh Flight Museum, aerobatic planes and other surprises. ....

Taste Addison returns this year after being canceled in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic. The food and music event on June 4 and 5 will feature dishes from Addison restaurants such as Cantina Laredo, Taste of Chicago and Sigree Indian Cuisine, as well as major musical artists on both days.
Plus, visitors can shop for items from local vendors at the Marketplace and check out children’s activities at the Discovery Depot including crafts, balloon twisting, an aquatic touch tank presented by Fish Gallery and Cavanaugh Flight Museum’s military vehicle display. A $10 wristband gets you all-day access to games, attractions, a petting zoo, airbrush tattoos and more ....

Designed in 1939 by the North American Aviation Company (NAA) and baptized in honor of Major Gen. William “Billy” Mitchell (1879-1936), one of the first and most prominent supporters of American air power, the B-25 production run ran from 1940 and 1945. The two facilities, that produced the B-25, Inglewood, California and Kansas City, Kansas, turned out over 10,000 aircraft.
Amongst the many versions produced, without doubt the most significant were the G and H-models. The G-model featured a 75mm M4 cannon from the Sherman tank and four 50-caliber machine guns, which made this variant effective against small vessels, particularly barges carrying troops and cargo. The cannon was effective against ships as large as a destroyer. ....

Majors Field Fly-in scheduled May 1

Aviation fans are expected to come to Greenville May 1.
Majors Field, the City of Greenville Municipal Airport, is hosting a Fly-in event between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. that day which is scheduled to include aircraft of all types. Organizers are anticipating more than 100 civil aircraft flying into the airport during the event, along with airplanes from the Commemorative Airforce and Cavanaugh Flight Museum and possibly a rocket from EXOS Aerospace. There will also be airplanes on static display from flight training academies sharing information on learning to fly.
There will also be a bounce house, face painting, a mini train and other activities. ....
