Esut Teaching Hospital Staff Sets For Strike

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – There are strong indications that workers at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology ( ESUT ) Teaching Hospital, Parklane, may soon embarked on indefinite industrial action, following series of disagreements, alleged injustices, and maltreatment by the Enugu state government on the labor unions in the health facility.
Some of the aggrieved labour unions in the hospital are, Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) and National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM).
African Examiner reports that NUAHP members are made up of Physiotherapists, Pharmacists, Medical Laboratory Scientists, Nutritionists, Medical Social Workers, Dieticians, Optometrists, Clinical Psychologists, etc, while NANNM consists of Nurses and Midwives. ....

I have followed with keen interest the current debate over the existing Enugu State Gubernatorial Pensions Laws 2007, which was represented as a personal bill to the State House of Assembly for amendment. I have observed the genuine concerns being expressed by people on social media over this issue. I also observed acts of mischief and undue personal vendetta being advanced by cynics and pessimists, who usually cash in on such engagements to expose their unruliness, lack of character and sense of respect, as portrayed by one Ikem Okuhu.
May I, therefore, point out that the grundnorm of the Federation, i.e. the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) gave legal backing to the issue of pension for persons who have held office as the Governor or Deputy Governor of a State in Nigeria. ....

THE immediate past member of the House of Representatives representing Nkanu East/Nkanu West in the Federal House of Representatives, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ujam, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, to join the All Progressives Congress.
The former federal law maker and close ally of former Governor Sullivan Chime, joined the APC along with several of his supporters on Monday.
He was received into APC after registering and obtaining his membership card at his Akpasha Ward Akegbeugwu, in Enugu South Local Government Area.
On hand to receive him were: The Enugu State APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, former Senate President, Chief Ken Nnamani and members of the Senator Jonathan Zwingina-led Enugu State APC registration committee among others. ....
