Harbour View: - On Wednesday, March 3, 2021, His Excellency Governor drs. Eugene B. Holiday paid a working visit to the COVID-19 Vaccine Administering Location at the Vineyard Park Office Complex in Philipsburg. During a tour of the location, Governor Holiday received a briefing on the vaccination process from Mrs. Lista-de Weever, Epidemiologist and head of the Department of Collective Prevention Services (CPS). Minister Panneflek with responsibility for CPS, a department within the Ministry of Public Health, Labor, and Social Affairs, attended part of the visit. The Governor met and spoke with CPS staff about the experiences, the vaccination process, how the operation is going as well as the number of persons vaccinated and registered so far. ....

Women large and in charge in Caribbean politics

The active participation of women in the Caribbean’s political landscape is critical to fulfilling the potential of democracy.
Women make essential contributions to achieving and maintaining peacefully secure communities, the realisation of human rights, disease eradication, hunger and poverty and the promotion of sustainable development.
When women realise their full rights to participate in political processes, all of society stands to benefit. Even so, there are many obstacles to women’s full participation in politics.
According to the United Nations, “On average, 22 per cent of ministerial portfolios/cabinet positions in the Anglophone Caribbean are held by women. Across the region, women generally do not hold more than 30 per cent of elected positions with the exception of Guyana (which has a legislated quota of one-third of the number of political nominees must be women) and Trinidad and Tobago.” ....

Firstly, Pro Soualiga, on behalf of the population of St. Maarten, wishes to express its profound gratitude to the government and people of the Netherlands for their willingness to assist the Caribbean Islands during this devastating pandemic.
According to Article 20 of the Reglement voor de Gouverneur van St. Maarten (Rules of Order for the Governor of St. Maarten), the governor has the authority to supervise compliance with treaties and decisions of international organizations. Furthermore, according to Article 20, the governor also has the power to make proposals regarding compliance with international law to the Kingdom government. In other words, the Governor of St. Maarten has the authority to propose that Articles 44, 50, and 51 be removed from the Kingdom Charter due to his authority to ensure that our laws are in compliance with international organizations su ....
