Refugee-Canyon Fire District files suit against Licking County over dispatching fees

NEWARK - The Refugee-Canyon Joint Fire District has filed a civil lawsuit against Licking County and its Board of Commissioners over 911 dispatching fees.
In a civil complaint filed in Licking County Common Pleas Court last week, the Refugee-Canyon Joint Fire District seeks declaratory judgement in the case, asking the court to declare Licking County doesn t have the legal authority to charge for dispatch services provided to the district.
The Refugee-Canyon Joint Fire District was formed in October 2019, following approval by Hebron s council members and Union Township s trustees. A joint venture between the Village of Hebron and Union Township, the district provides fire and EMS service to Hebron and Union Township residents. ....

Harrison Township solar field could be windfall for Licking County schools, government


HARRISON TOWNSHIP A proposed 108-megawatt solar field on 512 acres of Harrison Township farmland could provide a financial windfall for property tax recipients, especially Southwest Licking Schools.
Union Ridge Solar, a subsidiary of Leeward Renewable Energy, announced plans to construct the solar field near the AEP Kirk substation on Watkins Road, on property north of Refugee Road, west of York Road, south of Blacks Road and on both sides of Watkins Road.
The company would pay a flat fee of least $753,000 annually for 30 years, or $22.6 million, if the project receives the required state and local approvals for the Qualified Energy Tax Exemption Program. The minimum payment would be in lieu of taxes, based on a state law assessing $7,000 per megawatt for such solar and wind fields. The amount could be increased up to $9,000 per megawatt, or $969,300 annually. ....

Ohio solar field in Licking County could power Facebook, Google, Amazon datacenters


The renewable energy arm of a Canadian pension fund has proposed a 108-megawatt solar field on 512 acres of farmland in Harrison Township. 
Union Ridge Solar, a subsidiary of Leeward Renewable Energy, announced plans to construct the solar field near the AEP Kirk substation on Watkins Road north of Refugee Road. 
The development could meet demand for power by Facebook, Google and Amazon datacenters in western Licking County and could provide a financial windfall for property tax recipients, especially Southwest Licking Schools.
