Rock County concrete plant to pay state in air-pollution settlement

A Rock County plant that makes concrete blocks and girders must pay the state of Wisconsin $171,750 as part of a lawsuit settlement.
The state on Jan. 19 alleged County Materials Corp. violated air-pollution laws at its plant at 1104 E. La Prairie-Turtle Townline Road, according to Rock County Court records.
Rock County Judge Jeffrey Kuglitsch approved the settlement Jan. 29.
The state alleged County Materials did not obtain the required air-pollution permits for the plant, did not report annual air emissions from the facility to the Department of Natural Resources and did not pay annual air emission fees.
The $171,750 settlement includes $81,722 in past-due fees to the DNR and $90,027 in forfeitures, surcharges and court costs. ....

AG Kaul Announces Settlement with County Materials Corp. to Resolve Wisconsin Air Law Violations at Janesville Facility

MADISON, Wis. – Attorney General
Josh Kaul today announced a settlement with County Materials Corp. requiring County Materials Corp. to pay $171,750 to resolve violations of Wisconsin’s air laws at its facility in Janesville, Wis. The settlement was approved by the Rock County Circuit Court on January 29, 2021.
“Companies must do their part to protect communities from air pollution, not flout the rules that protect clean air,” said Attorney General Kaul.
The State of Wisconsin alleged that County Materials Corp. constructed and operated its Janesville facility without obtaining required air permits from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Noboken Nature Center progressed immensely in 2020

The Unified School District of Antigo has been working for quite awhile to get the Noboken Nature Center built, and 2020 has brought substantial progress to the project.
The school district has owned the 168 acres in Upham since 1931. In the past 30-plus years, itâs been used to serve the educational needs of students.
Located just north of Antigo, off of Highway J at Noboken Lake, the school forest continues to progress in becoming a year-round environmental education center that will increase the use of the school forest.
The lodge will have electricity, full restrooms and a kitchen. There will be a deck, covered porch, large classroom and a display area for the districtâs taxidermy collection. ....
