Update: No injuries reported in Jefferson grain elevator explosion


An explosion at a grain elevator in Jefferson Friday morning destroyed part of the co-op and rattled homes and businesses for blocks. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams confirmed an explosion at Landus Cooperative at 1500 North Mulberry St. at around 8 a.m.Landus said in a statement that smoldering grain in a self-contained bin located next to the grain elevator led to the dust explosion. No one was injured and all employees were found.Neighbors around the co-op initially thought the sound and shaking were from a strong thunderstorm. “Wow! It was like, my whole place rattled. It was insane. I thought ‘what the heck?’ We knew there were thunderstorms supposed to be coming in, and it s like, ‘whoa that wasn t no thunder,’” Paulette Stampe said.Robbie Burkhardt lives across the street from the blast. Iowa State Patrol Investigates Hit and Run Incident in Grand Junction


An alleged hit and run incident Tuesday night in Grand Junction resulted in life-threatening injuries.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the incident occurred at 8:10pm at the intersection of 16th Street and Sandoe Street East. Seventy-two-year-old Robert Kinnick of Grand Junction was traveling north on 16th Street in a 2005 Dodge Ram truck when it hit 46-year-old Travis Fincel of Grand Junction, who was walking north – and within the roadway- on 16th Street. 
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams said  the pickup truck allegedly left the scene, and they found the vehicle parked at a Casey’s gas station, where Kinnick was taken in for questioning. Williams said Kinnick admitted to hitting Fincel.  ....
