New borough councillor Kate Tomlinson says she has long to-do list

While a Conservative win in a safe ward was not unexpected, Coun Tomlinson’s performance was the best ever seen by the party in the area – albeit on a very low turn out of 1882 or 22 per cent of eligible voters.
Her share represents 60.5 per cent of the vote, up from her ward and party colleague Jo Morris Gold’s 53.85 per cent in May. ....

Until May 2020, Emma Faramarzi, whose resignation triggered this week’s by-election, was a senior member of the ruling Conservative group.

The huge and growing Tadpole farm development is in the ward and could be said to be responsible for its creation.
Until 2012 St Andrews was just a part of the Blunsdon ward, which was one of the biggest in the borough, stretching from Swindon’s northern border with Wiltshire to the Ridgeway ward in the south.
But because of the growth of the population in the past two decades, electoral authorities created a new ward, putting Blunsdon in with Highworth and making a one for the developments.
That growth will be one of the issues affecting voters here. As more houses are built, there are concerns about how those residents will get about – traffic, parking, congestion – and how infrastructure is developed to cater for them. ....
