MAYOR of Swindon Garry Perkins was praised for his diligence and love of Swindon – and gently teased for his dislike of modern technology – as councillors unanimously voted for an unprecedented second Conservative term in office.
After his mayoral year was largely ruined by the Covid-19 lockdowns, Coun Perkins has been handed the chance to perform the normal duties in 2021-22 instead.

Garry Perkins is staying on as mayor of Swindon for another year.
Councillors have agreed Coun Perkins should have 12 more months as Swindon’s first citizen – partly because his term which started last May was so severely restricted by the Covid-19 pandemic but also because deputy mayor Brian Mattock died in March.
Coun Perkins said: “Normally the deputy mayor has a year in post to learn the job, but Brian died and it means there wasn’t someone who’d one that year who could take over. The deputy mayor this year will be Abdul Amin.” ....

Sutton Bridge councillor calls for better funding for Lincolnshire in street light debate

Villagers fighting to have their street lights switched on have been told to direct their complaints to the Government.
Members of Sutton Bridge Parish Council had made calls for the lights to be turned on in parts of the village.
But Coun Chris Brewis, who sits on both the parish and Lincolnshire County Councils, said the county were forced to switch off the lights after having its funding cut by the Government.

Currently, the county council switches off lights between midnight and 6am, which was hoped to save Â£2.5million. ....
