City of Elizabethton receives Chamber's gift of historic train display

ELIZABETHTON â Thursdayâs Elizabethton City Council meeting saw a bit of history as council members accepted a train display from the local Chamber.
The display was given to the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce many years ago and was displayed on city property next to U.S. Highway 19E where the Chamber offices used to be located.
With the Chamberâs move to its new offices in downtown Elizabethton, it was decided to turn the train over to the city to make sure the train remains properly cared for.
âWe are delighted to gift this icon to the City for safe keeping as we complete our move,â said Chamber Executive Director Joy McCray. âWe hope tourists and train enthusiasts will continue to come and see it.â ....

Killeen council candidates weigh in on assistant city manager hiring

The Killeen City Council tonight will consider approval of naming current Public Works Director Danielle Singh as the cityâs new assistant city manager.Â
Singh s name is being put forward by City Manager Kent Cagle, following a nationwide search in which the city received 59 applications and conducted six interviews with candidates for the job that was advertised with a salary in the $160,000 range.
The vote could take place as early as tonight during the Killeen City Council meeting.
While Killeen Mayor Jose Segarra said the job search for a replacement of former Assistant City Manager David Ellison was transparent and by the book, some of the current councilmembers expressed concern, saying they were not kept in the loop regarding the progress of the search. ....

Killeen could have a new assistant city manager — if the council votes for her

Killeen may have a new assistant city manager â the cityâs top administrator behind City Manager Kent Cagle â on Tuesday night if the City Council approves the promotion of Executive Director of Public Works Danielle Singh to the spot, which comes with a $175,000 annual salary.

But that could be a big âifâ after some councilmembers told the Herald they were not kept in the loop on the ânationwideâ search for Killeenâs new assistant city manager, which became vacant after the resignation of David Ellison in October.
