Council house rents are set to rise by two per cent for most tenants.
Members of Highland Council’s housing committee agreed the recommendation by officers after a consultation with tenants found a majority in favour of the rise.
The increase will see the average weekly charge for a council home rise by £1.55, from £77.70 to £79.25. ....

Highland Council’s housing and property committee has agreed to raise rents by two per cent for the second year running despite some speaking out against the move.
According to the council, after “an extensive consultation” the “preferred option of tenants” is a two per cent increase in council house rent for 2021 and 2022 – a rise of £1.55 per week, from £77.70 to £79.25. ....

MORE than £1 million has been set aside for ongoing fire safety works across council homes in the Highlands.
The money, for the rest of this financial year and next, has been transferred from Highland Council’s housing revenue budget to the capital programme after the Scottish Government announced changes to the standards for fire and smoke detectors in all homes.
At a meeting of the housing and property committee, members were told that the majority of works involve extending existing smoke alarm provision to additional rooms and hallways, and would be completed by a qualified electrician. ....
