Closure of St. Mary's HS, Brollagh slammed by councillors

AN INDEPENDENT member of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has branded the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS) an “abysmal disgrace” over the closure of St. Mary’s High School, Brollagh.
During discussions around Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s plan to lead stakeholder engagements, Chair Councillor Errol Thompson pointed out the school has now officially closed, and “it’s now about the next steps on how to proceed”.
The Council had written to all involved in an attempt to pull all interested parties together, and while there was a largely positive response, the statutory agencies have not as yet engaged. ....

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council – Young lifesaver commended

Councillor Paul Blake SDLP.
MEMBERS of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council have commended a school girl who used her First Aid training to save the life of a man she found unconscious.
During a recent committee meeting, Councillor Paul Blake SDLP said he wanted to raise the positive story of Aoife Straume – a student at St. Fanchea’s College, Enniskillen and a part-time council employee at the Lakeland Forum.
He explained Aoife was on her way home from school when she discovered the man and quickly ascertained he had stopped breathing.
“Using her training learned at the Forum, she provided assistance, called an ambulance and performed CPR. She talked with the emergency services until they arrived and they were extremely grateful.” ....

The consultancy company appointed by the Department of Economy Minister Diane Dodds MLA to research the viability of fracking, has been left in no doubt of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s fierce opposition.
During a special meeting of the Regeneration and Development, representatives of Hatch Regeneris heard a united voice from the chamber.
It was the second meeting with the consultants, which was called because the first, held in February, was behind closed doors.
As before officials from the Department’s Mineral’s Branch were in attendance in a ‘watching brief’ perspective. ....

Brexit blame game kicks off at Fermanagh and Omagh Council meeting

Members of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council have traded political blows after receiving an update around Brexit, with the Northern Ireland Protocol taking centre stage.
During a meeting of the Brexit Committee, the single aspect not dividing the chamber was discontent with the current position. How it was reached however, was reduced to an all-out, gloves-off  blame game.
The Trade Agreement signed on Christmas Eve became law days later through the Future Relationship Bill. The Protocol keeps Northern Ireland within the EU Single Market with customs applying to goods, including movements to and from Britain, although a short grace period is allowing some flexibility. ....
