Bradford Council launch Active Travel Neighbourhood consultation | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

PEOPLE have been urged to have their say over plans to reduce through-traffic in three areas of the Bradford district.
An Active Travel Neighbourhood (ATN) is proposed for Barkerend, Saltaire and Frizinghall. It aims to create a safer and quieter environment for those who live, work or visit the areas by removing through-traffic from the area.
ATNs are areas where a number of point closures are introduced on residential side streets to prevent non-local traffic from using these streets to cut through an area.
In Barkerend, the number of child casualties caused by road traffic accidents is almost double the city average with Upper Seymour Street/Browning Street/Amberley Street/Harewood Street and Gulpin Street still being used as cut-throughs by motorists. Life expectancy for Bowling and Barkerend residents is also lower than the district average. ....

Retrospective plan for greyhound shed on Green Belt site in Shipley is refused

“It is not a particularly attractive building.”
Askar Mahmood, speaking on behalf of the applicant, argued that the building did not harm the Green belt, and was not easily visible from the road. He added: “It is no different than an allotment shed - it only takes up a small portion of the site.”
He suggested that if needed the shed could be “camouflaged” with grass.
He added: “If these plans are refused we would have to put the dogs in a residential area, which would lead to neighbours complaining.”
Mr Khan said walking the dogs had proved beneficial to his health, and keeping them was a hobby, not a business. ....

Councillors claim taxi industry ignored in Clean Air Zone plans

COUNCILLORS have claimed Bradford’s taxi industry have been ignored when drawing up the District’s Clean Air Zone proposals.
Bradford Council will introduce a Clean Air Zone in January - meaning the most polluting vehicles will be charged to enter the city centre and areas of Shipley.
Although private cars will be exempt, HGVs, vans and taxis will all have to meet certain emission standards if they want to avoid paying a daily charge (up to £50 per day for HGVs and £12.50 per day for taxis).
At a meeting of the Council’s Regulatory and Appeals Committee on Thursday Councillors and officers got into a heated and at times fiery discussion about how much taxi drivers had been consulted on the plans. ....

COUNCILLORS have gone against the recommendations of officers and refused plans to build a cafe at a busy Bradford junction.
Members of the Bradford Planning Panel disagreed that double yellow lines would be enough to deter people parking at the junction of Beckside Road and Spencer Road - the location of the proposed cafe.
An application for a new cafe and tearoom on a vacant piece of land at 117 - 119 Beckside Road was submitted to Bradford Council by Raheel Munir last year.
It was the latest in a string of planning application submitted to the Council to create cafes out of storage containers, and work on the business has already started. ....
