Mental health to be focus of 814th Mayor of Lincoln Issue “highlighted by coronavirus” Lincoln’s 814th Mayor wants to include mental health as one of her top priorities. Councillor Jackie Kirk will be handed the mantle of the City of Lincoln Mayor from Councillor Sue Burke during a meeting at Lincoln Cathedral’s Chapterhouse on Tuesday. Councillor Burke has held the role for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic – the first to do so since the First World War. Councillor Kirk held the role of deputy mayor during that time. Councillor Kirk has been a City of Lincoln Councillor for Glebe Ward since 2012. ....

The cafe closed last year after the coronavirus pandemic restrictions were introduced, but it will reopen with a new look and refreshed menu on Tuesday, May 18. It was designed by the 119-year-old family firm which has run the High Bridge since the 1930s. No through traffic: Police remind drivers about Brayford Wharf East restrictions A public consultation was recently completed Police were out on Monday reminding drivers in Lincoln about the driving restrictions on Brayford Wharf East. The road was closed to through-traffic in October 2020 for a one-year trial to provide a virtually traffic-free route for cyclists and pedestrians to the River Witham path, the university, and to the city centre. It means motorists cannot turn from St Mark’s Street or Rope Walk into Brayford Wharf East, although access will still be given to emergency vehicles and for business access. This was introduced in a bid to encourage cycling in the area and a pop-up cycle lane was created as part of the Department for Transport’s emergency active travel fund. ....

Councillor Sue Burke, the City of Lincoln’s 813th mayor, will pass the chains of office to Councillor Jackie Kirk on Tuesday during a meeting at Lincoln Cathedral’s Chapterhouse. Mayors are supposed to only sit for a single year, however, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Councillor Burke was in her position for two. The last mayor to sit for multiple years was Charles Thomas Parker, who reigned from 1915-19 while the First World War raged on. ....

The custodians at the New Theatre Royal in Lincoln marked its reopening from the latest coronavirus lockdown by receiving the Lincoln Civic Award for 2020. Natalie and Mike Hayes-Cowley were thrilled to receive the award, which couldn’t be officially presented last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The presentation came at an important time for the theatre, which marks its week of reopening with live performances of Strictly Cabaret X that can be seen on Fridays, May 21, May 28, June 11 and June 18, as well as Saturday, June 19. ....
