Brexit blame game kicks off at Fermanagh and Omagh Council meeting

Members of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council have traded political blows after receiving an update around Brexit, with the Northern Ireland Protocol taking centre stage.
During a meeting of the Brexit Committee, the single aspect not dividing the chamber was discontent with the current position. How it was reached however, was reduced to an all-out, gloves-off  blame game.
The Trade Agreement signed on Christmas Eve became law days later through the Future Relationship Bill. The Protocol keeps Northern Ireland within the EU Single Market with customs applying to goods, including movements to and from Britain, although a short grace period is allowing some flexibility. ....

Fermanagh and Omagh Council Chair - Comments around contentious motion were disrespectful

Diana Armstrong, UUP
THE Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has ruled that remarks made at a previous meeting around the handling of a Sinn Fein motion were disrespectful.
There was fury in the chamber during the December meeting when then Chair, Councillor Chris Smyth, was accused of censorship by Sinn Fein after he rejected a motion on the 100th anniversary of the passing of the Government of Ireland Act, resulting in the partition of the island of Ireland.
The submitted motion held this had proved detrimental to the social, economic and political development of the island, and that, 100 years on, partition continues to fail all citizens. ....

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council: Councillors criticise items being heard confidentially

TWO members of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council have criticised the decision to have specific items of business heard confidentially, to the exclusion of public and press.
However, it appeared that even voicing discontent on this issue was not permissible, as both were prevented from elaborating – one moreso than the other.
The matter was raised at the most recent Policy and Resources Committee meeting, and while one councillor insisted the business he wished to discuss was already in the public domain, another who was angered by the closed nature of the fracking consultation error review was cut off by the Chair before his comments could be fully articulated. ....
