Family dies in helicopter crash | News, Sports, Jobs

A former Youngstown-area family was among those who died Monday afternoon in a helicopter crash at Botany Bay in St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands.
The St. Thomas Reformed Church revealed on its Facebook page the identity of the family of three who died in the helicopter crash as Daniel and Neisha Yannone, and their son Tyler, who was a senior at Antilles School in St. Thomas.
The Yannones, who are former Youngstown residents, who were members of that church, died in the crash along with pilot of the helicopter, Maria Rodriquez, according to The Virgin Islands Consortium.
The church published a tribute stating: “Tyler belonged to our church, to our XYG youth group; he and his parents Daniel and Neisha belonged and served this church and community in countless, unselfish ways; friends to so many. On this eve of Ash Wednesday, where we remember our mortality, I ask you all to join our faith community in prayer for Daniel, Neisha, Tyler and Maria (bel ....

Plaskett to sit on influential House panel

The expectation that V.I. Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett will join the powerful U.S. House of Representativesâ Ways and Means Committee is being viewed as not only historic but an opportunity for the Virgin Islands to have a much-needed voice for economic development at the highest level.
As the first member of a territory to join the exclusive tax-writing committee, Plaskett said she intends to âvigilantly watchâ for scurrilous tax policy and proposals that in previous years led to industries and businesses leaving the territories for better opportunities.
Instead, Plaskett said she will champion tax incentives that will attract investment and ultimately build up local economies, something she claimed was more prevalent in the 1990s and the decades preceding than today. ....

Plaskett seeks transparency in Interior, Caneel Bay negotiations

V.I. Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett has penned a letter to the U.S. Interior Department seeking transparency on recent âgood faithâ negotiations between the department and the operator of the storm-damaged Caneel Bay Resort on St. John.
The letter, which was sent Friday to Interior Secretary David Bernhardt and co-signed by chairman of the House Committee on Natural Resources Raul Grijalva, requested the term sheet agreed to between the department and resort owner CBI Acquisitions, as well as a briefing on the negotiations.
âThe Committee on Natural Resources has the authority to request and review proprietary information related to its legislative jurisdiction over national parks and federal lands generally, including entry, easements, and grazing thereon,â the letter stated. ....
