Thanks to CACC grant, WexExpress to help hundreds in Wexford, Missaukee get to vaccination clinics

Whether due to financial hardship, disability or other constraints, some people don t have a reliable way of getting from place to place, including to essential medical appointments and COVID-19 vaccination clinics.
Thanks to a donation from the Cadillac Area Community Foundation, WexExpress has committed to making sure that any resident of Wexford or Missaukee county who needs a ride to get vaccinated will have that opportunity.
The Cadillac Area Community Foundation recently granted $1,500 to the Cadillac/Wexford Transit Authority to be matched by New Freedom Program. The New Freedom Program is a federal grant to help individuals struggling to make it to their medical appointments because of a lack of transportation. With the grants, 3,000 miles of transportation will be provided to individuals in Wexford and Missaukee counties to get to COVID clinics. ....

CADILLAC â March 4, 2021 marked the end of an era for beloved Cadillac, Michigan native, Paul McMullen, who was an adored son, brother, husband, father who lost his life in a tragic skiing accident in his hometown.
Paul, born February 19, 1972 to parents, Douglas and Theresa (Trahan) McMullen, always lived life to the fullest. He was best known publicly for his accolades on the track, having been an 8 time All-American at Eastern Michigan University, and a member of the US Olympic team in Atlanta, Georgia in 1996. Rover looks at Cadillac alleys, octagonal building

Q:Â While having to walk one of the allyâs recently in Cadillac we noticed that they are icy and slippery. We were wondering why hasnât some dirt, salt or both been put on the alleys?
A: Rover contacted Cadillac Department of Public Works Operations Manager Ken Payne to see if he could help him out. As usual, Payne had an answer for the newshound.
He told Rover the city does salt the alleys that have concrete or asphalt base. The city also uses sand for gravel alleys when needed. Payne told Rover most of the gravel alleys are on flat terrain with a very low-speed limit, so sand isn t needed on those as much as the alleys in hillier sections of the city. ....

Q: Why can t the octagonal building be left where it is and have done the same projects that are planned at the Veterans Park?
A: After years of discussing the issue of what to do with the historic octagonal building, Wexford County let the public know last May that demolition was a real option. In light of the county s finances and the real possibility that revenues from the state will be significantly less than normal, the county didn t have the money to fix it.
While there have been numerous people in the community who have come together to make the historic structure a viable building, they were unable to come up with the money needed. ....
