Vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi said scientists are looking at a range of options, including new jabs to protect against variants or mixing the types of injections given, so if a patient had AstraZeneca for their initial doses they could be given Pfizer as a booster.
“We want them to be able, if they need to, from September onwards to boost those that are most vulnerable,” Zahawi said. The government has already ordered 60 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine in preparation for a booster campaign. ....

DETROIT – This week the City of Detroit is launching an all out push to get more shots into arms.
Everything is on the table from welcoming walk-ins at all vaccination sites, giving gift cards to people who take neighbors to get vaccinated to going door-to-door.
The city’s numbers have lagged the rest of the state. These efforts are looking to change that.
Detroit’s Northwest Activities Center at Curtis and Myers on the city’s west side is exactly nine-tenths of a mile from DMC Sinai Grace Hospital. Detroit residents hit by COVID-19 flooded the hospital last year. It is the same place many mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers were lost because of the virus. ....

Standing in the middle of the 18th fairway at the Women s World Championship, Lydia Ko was seven shots off the lead.
Walking off the 18th green, she was right back in contention.
A freakish eagle on the final hole of the Kiwi golfer s third round in Singapore saw her card a three-under 69 and jump to 10-under, and while Ko was celebrating, leader Inbee Park was far less happy, with a bogey on 14 and a double bogey on 16 seeing her once-sizeable lead evaporate. ....

Moderna boosting Covid-19 vaccine-making capacity, targets up to 3 billion shots in 2022
Moderna Inc said on Thursday it is boosting manufacturing capacity for its Covid-19 vaccine and expects to make up to 3 billion doses in 2022, more than twice its previous forecast.
It also said it is increasing its expectations for 2021 vaccine production to between 800 million and 1 billion shots, raising the bottom of its range from 700 million.
The final number of inoculations will depend on how many are lower-dose formulations for boosters and immunisation for children. Moderna shots currently deploy 100 micrograms of vaccine substance but some future shots may use only 50 micrograms. ....
