Cottonwood Man Loses Thousands Of Dollars In Two Separate Phone Scams
A 75-year-old Cottonwood man was recently scammed out of thousands of dollars in two separate phone scams. The first call took place between December 13th and 18th. A scammer who went by the name “Mike McCarthy” told the man his social security number had been used for illegal activity in Texas and in order to avoid a warrant for his arrest, the man needed to buy $10-thousand in gift cards and provide the information to him. The man went to various locations in Cottonwood and bought nine-thousand dollars in cards before his bank declined additional purchases. The man gave “McCarthy” the information and was then told by the scammer to send him $10-thousand. He sent the money, but eventually called the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office. Due to a tracking number, the man was able to get the money back. He then told the deputy another person called him claiming to work at the Cottonwo ....

Cottonwood Police experiencing phone service issues as area residents are unable to call 911

COTTONWOOD, AZ â The Cottonwood Police Department is warning its community of current technical issues that are causing residents to not be able to call 911.
The police department said Centurylink contacted their dispatch center and confirmed that about 175 landlines in the Verde Valley area are not able to call 911 because of technical issues.
For those experiencing an emergency, the police ask you to call 928-649-1397.
Authorities said crews are now working to resolve the issue at this time.
