International shipping line and vessel operator, Maersk, has introduced a new charge termed the “Inland Additional Import Service” payable by Ghanaian importers at the Tema Port.
In a letter addressed to Ghanaian importers and sighted by norvanreports, the world’s largest shipping line noted that the “Inland Additional Import Service” with a tariff of $50 per container, is to cover costs incurred by the shipping line in import container transfers from the Tema Port (MPS) to other designated yards by the Ghana Port and Harbour (GPHA) for unstuffing purposes.
“After container unstuffing, to move the empty containers back to the port, Maersk has to pay extra costs for this and this new charge is to ensure we recover this associated cost,” stated Maersk in the letter. ....

GPHA rolls out new port tariffs from today
The Ghana Ports and Harbours will with effect from today, Monday, March 1, 2021, begin the implementation of new tariff for services rendered to shipping lines at the seaports.
According to a report on graphic.com.gh, the new tariff regime applies to containerized cargo for port dues, stevedoring, cranage and terminal handling (empty container).
Also, the tariffs are to increase on an average of 15.74 per cent for 20-footer containers and 16.81 per cent for 40-footer containers, the report adds.
The GPHA explained that it is targeting only shipping lines for the new tariff adjustment as it will help generate more revenue to settle loans secured to build the Terminal Three of the Tema Port and other port infrastructure. ....

Register products before sale - FDA advises importers

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has advised importers and exporters to register their cosmetics and household chemical products before offering them for sale to the public.
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the FDA in charge of Food Registration, Mr. Roderick Daddey-Adjei, said the law stipulated that no retailer or importer should display any cosmetics product unless such persons had registered them with the authorities.
He was speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting with freight forwarders and importers on FDA-regulated products in Tema yesterday.
Mr. Daddey-Adjei said although sections 99 and 118 of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851) prohibited the importation of unregistered food, drugs, cosmetics, household chemical substances, medical devices, tobacco and substances of abuse, many importers continued to bring in such unregistered regulated products, many of which found their way onto the markets, thereby posing potential health hazards to un ....
