Rome City moves forward on body cam purchase

ROME CITY â Rome City police officers will soon be equipped with body cameras, becoming the latest Noble County department to add the technology.
After waiting a month and getting one additional quote from a vendor, not much changed from February as Marshal Paul Hoffman suggested the town go with a system from WOLFCOM.
The WOLFCOM camera system was the cheapest of the three vendors Hoffman priced, and is well-known in the law enforcement field as the company provides cameras to more than 1,500 police agencies.
All other Noble County departments have cameras too. Cromwell just recently purchased cameras but has not put them into use yet. ....

Firefighters on the scene said they went out on the call around 2am. The location ironically is very near station 5, which is 6217 Hohman.

The Sullivan County Commissioners got a lot accomplished in a 15-minute time span during a special meeting immediately prior to a joint meeting with the Sullivan County Council in an executive session on Wednesday.
First off, the commissioners signed an interlocal agreement between the city of Sullivan and the county concerning Commonwealth Engineers Inc. proceeding with a capacity review/sewer extension for the possible site of a new jail north of the city.
Also, the city of Sullivan and the county agreed that if a proposed sewer cost option is acceptable to the county, that Sullivan would provide services for the proposed jail. ....

Crown Point board OKs purchase of 12 police vehicles

CROWN POINT â The Police Department is looking to upgrade its fleet of vehicles.
During a Wednesday Board of Works meeting via Zoom, Crown Point Police Chief Pete Land requested to purchase 10 cars and two motorcycles for the police department.Â
The department contacted eight vendors for quotes, Land noted.Â
Land said Smith Ford in Lowell was the the lowest and most responsible bidder for the purchase of 10 cars, including eight 2021 all-wheel driveÂ Police InterceptorÂ Utility patrol SUVs at $39,575 each, and twoÂ 2021 all-wheel driveÂ Police InterceptorÂ Utility detective/administration SUVs at $33,864 each.Â
The total cost for the 10 cars would be $384,328.
Land also requested two new motorcycles for the department s motorcycle division.Â ....

Lapel awarded $700,000 state grant

LAPEL The town of Lapel has been awarded a $700,000 grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs to upgrade its water system.
Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch announced the awarding of the grant Thursday, with the funds going toward a planned $4 million project.
The project includes installing 10,550 linear feet of water main, complete well improvements, and water treatment and storage improvements.
“These grants are vital to Indiana’s economic success as these projects should improve the quality of life in these rural communities,” Crouch said.
Funding for the grant program originates from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Developments Community Development Block Grant program and is administered for the State of Indiana. ....
