ASIC commences civil penalty proceedings against CommSec and AUSIEX for systemic compliance failures
ASIC has commenced civil penalty proceedings in the Federal Court against Commonwealth Securities Limited (CommSec) and Australian Investment Exchange Limited (AUSIEX) for alleged breaches of the Market Integrity Rules, Corporations Act and ASIC Act (CommSec only) relating to systemic compliance failures in the delivery of financial services.
ASIC alleges the conduct spanned a significant period of time and involved failures across multiple systems and business areas. Commsec and AUSIEX submitted over 60 notifications to ASIC relating to the conduct.
It is ASIC’s view that the number, breadth and duration of the conduct is significant and indicates the entities did not have adequate systems and processes in place to ensure compliance with their relevant obligations under their Australian Financial Services licence (AFS licence) and pursuant to the Market ....

South Australia receives more than $2 million to boost disaster risk reduction
More than $2 million in combined Commonwealth and State Government funding announced today will reduce the risk of natural disasters across South Australia.
Minister for Emergency Management David Littleproud said the funding, provided through the Disaster Risk Reduction Grants Program, has been allocated to agencies, community groups and local councils for a range of local strategies.
“The funding is part of the $16.7 million commitment under the National Partnership Agreement on Disaster Risk Reduction and will reduce vulnerability and increase community capacity to cope in the face of natural disasters,” Minister Littleproud said. ....

Prioritise East Gippsland to support community-led recovery
East Gippsland Shire Council continues to work side-by-side with bushfire-impacted communities, supporting timely and appropriate community-led projects and initiatives.
Council’s role in advocating for funding allocations under the Regional Local Economic Recovery Stimulus (LERS) Program has supported some of the many great projects put forward in East Gippsland.
“The recent announcement of significant investment in 10 local projects is great news for our communities and we thank both the Commonwealth and Victorian governments for recognising the importance of these projects,” Mayor Cr Mendy Urie said.

Three female leaders who “broke the glass ceiling” in their fields will share their stories and advice on overcoming professional challenges during an International Women’s Day event designed to educate and empower women from across NSW.
Women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds have significantly lower rates of employment than their peers and are often locked out of leadership roles. In spite of the lack of the COVID-19 vaccine, our very own New River Valley Public Health District has remained one of the top performers throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia in terms of administering the designated vaccine doses received weekly.
My counterparts from across the state have asked me how a health district in Southwest Virginia could bring such an incredibly strong and efficient response to COVID-19 in the New River Valley.
When I speak with them they want to know what we are specifically doing, and how we are doing it, because they want to see if something similar can be implemented in their own localities. I explained to them that our community has a long-standing history of coming together in order to help one another and to get things done. ....
