BLACK LIVES MATTER: Bruce's Beach legislation passes Senate unanimously

The legislation intended to pave the way for the return of Bruce’s Beach to the Bruce family reached the California Senate Floor Wednesday afternoon, and passed in a resoundingly quick and unanimous 37-0 vote. 
Even supporters of the bill were surprised at the pace of SB 796’s progress. The bill passed through two Senate subcommittees with unanimous support last month and took only minutes to gain full bipartisan support on the Senate Floor.  ....

This week,
 SB 796, a bill championed by Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn which would allow Los Angeles County to return the Bruce’s Beach property to the descendants of Willa and Charles Bruce, cleared another legislative hurdle in Sacramento.
Chair of the California Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Anthony Portantino, determined that the legislation had no significant state costs and applied Senate Rule 28.8, sending it directly to the Senate Floor for a Second Reading without a hearing in the Appropriations Committee. The legislation had already passed the California Senate’s Committee on Natural Resources and Water last month with unanimous support. ....

Bradford Leads Bipartisan Effort to Return Bruce’s Beach to Black Family

In a historical effort to return stolen Manhattan Beach-front property back to the descendants of the Black owners whom the city unlawfully pickpocketed due to racial and civil injustices, a new bill sails out of the Senate Committee with bipartisan support.
Senate Bill 796 passed out of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources & Water with strong bipartisan support. This bill, authored by Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena), will allow the County of Los Angeles to return the beachfront property known as Bruce’s Beach to the descendants of Willa and Charles Bruce, from whom it was wrongfully taken in 1929. ....
