The University of Alaska Anchorage will graduate more than 1,000 students this semester.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The University of Alaska Anchorage will virtually honor more than 1,000 graduates this weekend following its spring semester.
“I continue to be impressed by the incredible sense of resiliency demonstrated by our students,” UAA Interim Chancellor Bruce Schultz said in a UAA press release. “Much like our 2020 graduates, the spring Class of 2021 navigated unprecedented obstacles on their path to graduation, all while juggling personal commitments and responsibilities.”
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the university’s ceremony events will not be held in person, but virtually. ....

Anchorage University Chancellor search narrows to eight finalists

The eight who were chosen include three Alaskans and five university leaders from outside of Alaska.
Some of the candidates from Alaska include the state s former Governor Sean Parnell, another is the current superintendent of the Anchorage School district Deena Bishop.
As part of the final phase of the chancellor search, virtual student and community forums are planned for April 13-14.
Bruce Schultz is currently serving as UAA’s interim chancellor until UA President Pat Pitney makes a final decision on the next UAA Chancellor.
That decision is expected to be announced in early May.

Anchorage schools superintendent, former Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell are among the finalists in UAA chancellor search

Anchorage School District Superintendent Deena Bishop, former Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell and former Iḷisaġvik College President Pearl Brower are among eight candidates selected by a University of Alaska Anchorage search committee as finalists to become UAA’s next chancellor.
The change in leadership comes following former UAA Chancellor Cathy Sandeen’s 2020 departure from the university. She served just over two years in the position.
Bruce Schultz is serving as UAA’s interim chancellor until a replacement is secured. Schultz previously served as UAA’s Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.
The other five contenders for UAA chancellor are from universities outside of the state, including Satasha Green-Stephen, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs at the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, and Angappa Gunasekaran, dean of the school of business and public administration at California State University in Bakersfield. ....
