Carbondale Clay Center Pairings event brings in 'the kickoff to summer'

There’s something special about working with clay, ceramic artist Lisa Ellena said.
Making mugs and other items people can interact with is special to her because of the connection they’ll have with the piece of art it will nourish them when they drink or eat and will be incorporated as a part of their daily routine.
“I feel like cups and mugs, they are special in that way. But in terms of functional pottery I love making all kinds of forms. Bowls and plates, vases and pitchers and everything,” Ellena said.
Ellena first came to Carbondale in 2010 as the resident artist at the Clay Center but has continued her life here since then. The annual Clay Pairings event that opens up space for ceramic artists and local beverage crafters to share the work in tandem is one she’s grown quite fond of. ....

Carbondale Clay Center welcomes new exhibit this Saturday through end of March

“Complexities: From Surface to Form” will open this Saturday, Feb. 6 at Carbondale Clay Center featuring artists from across the nation, according to a Jan. 29 news release. The celebration of modern art through the clay medium is meant to bring the subtleties of function and form together through various pieces of ceramic art, the release states.
Matthew Eames, the Gallery and Studio manager at the clay center, said all selected pieces on display were chosen intentionally to highlight the theme of the exhibit.

30 years of marriage and mixing mediums, ideas comes to life at Carbondale Clay Center

Artists and married couple, Wewer and Steve Keohane in Cabo San Lucas celebrating their anniversary.
Steve and Wewer Keohane met 30 years ago at a dream retreat in Red Feather Lake, Colorado. Steve said dreams play a large part not just in their personal relationship but also when it comes to artistic collaboration.
Both Steve and Wewer said their creative process or inspiration is meant to be shared and this is why they ultimately create art.
“We just feel the honest sharing of what comes through us is the most we can share with other people,” Steve said.
The Mixed Media Marriage exhibit is a celebration of the shared lives of two artists and closes on Jan. 30 at the Carbondale Clay Center. Wewer said she has spent more time as a professional artist than Steve, but that the exhibit shows individual work from the two of them as well as pieces they worked on together and celebrates their 30th anniversary as a married couple. ....
