All Santa Barbara County beaches are safe and open, according to the county, which conducts regular water quality monitoring. In a report examining test results from 2020-21, Heal the Bay gave East Beach at Mission Creek a D grade for bacterial pollution that flowed from the city to the ocean through the creek. Carpinteria high school student named 2020 Junior Carpinterian of the Year

CARPINTERIA, Calif. The Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce announced the 2020 Junior Carpinterian of the Year on Monday afternoon.
Lucia Alarcon was named the 2020 Junior Carpinterian of the Year.
Alarcon receiving a plaque from Congressman Carbajal.
Laura Flores from Carpinteria High School and Luke Williams from Bishop Diego High School were the finalists.
Alarcon will receive a $4,000 scholarship and Laura Flores and Luke Williams will each receive $1,500 scholarships.
“The purpose of the award is to honor outstanding seniors for their leadership abilities and special contributions to their school, to Carpinteria and beyond. While academic standing is important, community and school involvement are usually the deciding factor, said Joyce Donaldson, COO and Carpinteria Liaison of the Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce. ....

But this year, with travel still being actively discouraged by California’s Department of Public Health and the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the search for reservations in the most sought-after parks is more challenging than ever.
A recent search for sites in one of my favorite campgrounds, New Brighton State Beach near Capitola, south of Santa Cruz, returned almost no two-day reservations between now and September. Even planning six months ahead wasn t enough to secure a site. ....
