Mooring itself to an urban site, it reflects the long, glancing sunlight of the Prairie while also catching another kind of light: the midnight sun of Canada’s North. In architect Michael Maltzan’s words, the North’s cultural and physical geography is one of “ineffable qualities […] where the water shimmers away and melds with the sky.” For Maltzan, that geography enjoys a specific “quality of light […] that animates all the forms there.” ....
Meriden man faces weapons charges after vehicle search Meriden man faces weapons charges after vehicle search May 25, 2021 02:29PM By Devin Leith-Yessian, Record-Journal staff MERIDEN â A city resident faces weapons charges after police said they found a loaded firearm in his vehicle early Sunday. Joshua Williams, 25, of 153 Crown St., was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, interfering with an officer, reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle without a license. Officers were investigating a burglary on Colony Street around 4:35 a.m. when they noticed a vehicle driving erratically that matched a description of a vehicle suspected in the burglary, according to a police statement. Police stopped the vehicle, which Williams was driving. ....

The work will be between Albany s northern city line and the 4th Street trailhead and parking lot in the city of Watervliet along the Hudson River, according to the state Department of Transportation. It would provide for a smoother ride for all users of this route, part of the Empire State Trail. ....
Heavy rain causes City sewage backup to portion of town By The Telegram staff The City of Garden City is currently investigating a sewage backup caused by the amount of rain received on Sunday evening and Monday morning. The sewage backup has impacted properties on Amy Street, Susan Street, Colony Street, and Sarah Street. Residents in that area that have a basement, are asked to check for evidence of sewage backup. If a house in the area that is currently unoccupied (residents are out of town, home on the market, etc.), contact the City with that address so attempts to get in touch with the property owner. ....
