LANSING Dorothy T. Carlton (Dot) was a caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She went to her heavenly home on May 11, 2021, at the age of 88, in Lansing.
Dorothy was born to John and Katherine Toth in Calumet on July 31, 1932. She graduated from Calumet High School and Suomi College (now Finlandia University) in Hancock and also attended Marquette University and Wayne State University.
Dorothy was married to the love her life, Frederick “Fritz” Carlton, who preceded her in death in 1997. After his passing, she remained fiercely independent, putting finishing touches on their “camp” retirement home in Agate Harbor. She was passionate about a sense of community and life in the Copper Country. She found time to participate in community activities hosted by the Keweenaw Historical Society and the American Cancer Society while caring for aging relatives. The historic Calumet Theatre temporarily cancels professional shows | News, Sports, Jobs

CALUMET The Board of Directors of the Calumet Theatre announced today that due to COVID-19 restrictions and infrastructure needs, shows scheduled for May, June, and early July have been cancelled.
Citing the COVID-19 pandemic as the primary reason for canceling shows, a complete failure of the heating system in February focused the spotlight on other safety and maintenance issues needing attention. Theatre Board President Shannon Richter explains, “With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the directives by the State of Michigan to close public venues has imposed a serious financial burden to the Calumet Theatre. We have not been able to offer a show in more than one year. The staff has had to schedule a performance only to cancel that performance and reschedule it in hopes of availability of seating space due to the pandemic. In some cases, the shows have had to be rescheduled multiple times. Our staff have had to spend their time on this and were not a ....

CALUMET Movie Night at the Calumet Theatre returns with the screening of two classic Rock ‘n’ Roll films.
Saturday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m., the Theatre will present “Pink Floyd–The Wall.” In this visual riff on Pink Floyd’s classic album “The Wall,” successful but drugged-out musician Pink (Bob Geldof) is looking back on his isolated childhood from the confines of a Los Angeles hotel room. Through a swirl of flashbacks and chemical-induced hallucinations, Pink recalls his lonely upbringing, during which he built a symbolic wall to the world as he coped with the death of his father and the overbearing ways of his mother.
