Customs generates N1tr, seizes 2,333 goods in 6 months

Mr Attah said, “The service generated the sum of N1.003trn from January to June, 2021, as against the N713.548bn generated in the first half of 2020; with a positive difference of N290.204bn.
“Hitting the trillion naira mark within six months is unprecedented in the service. This feat is as a result of resolute pursuit of what is right and willingness to adapt to changes brought about by global health challenges occasioned by COVID-19.”
He attributed the revenue increase to the ongoing reforms by the service through the potentials of technology.
He also said, “The service, between January and June, 2021, effected 2,333 assorted seizures with DPV of N4.422bn. The seizures include arms and ammunition, illicit drugs and food items.” ....

The Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone C of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Wednesday said its officers intercepted 5,200 live ammunition and other contraband worth N1.3bilion in the last three months of 2021 in the South-South and South-East zones of the country.
In a press statement by the Public Relations Officer, FOU, Zone C, Jerry Attah and a copy made available to newsmen on Wednesday, the Customs Area Controller, Zone C, Compt. Yusuf Lawal said while N1.280billion were generated from seizures from contraband N7.6milion were raised as DN for cargoes that exited the seaports. ....

Influx of Psychotropic Drugs Fuelling Terrorism, Insecurity, Says NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has linked the current challenge of internal security within the country to uncontrolled influx and use of psychotropic medicines such as Tramadol and other chemicals.
The agency warned that henceforth, it will not hesitate to drag any importer or clearing agent found to be involved in fraudulent activities at the country’s ports before the court.
The Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, gave the warning in Abuja at a virtual sensitization workshop organized by the Agency for stakeholders in the Export and Import Trade activities at the nation’s ports, which included the National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Mine, and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and multinationals, amongst others. ....
