February 8, 2021: Vaccine Update – According to the official Maryland Department of Health statistics as of 2/7/21, Calvert County has the 5th highest rate of vaccination among Maryland’s 24 counties. 100% of the vaccines received by the Calvert County Health Department through 2/7/21 have been administered.
For readers wondering why they aren’t among the 10,566 residents of our county who have received at least one dose of vaccine, the short answer is that we lack sufficient numbers of vaccinations to do the job that we desperately want to do. Of note, there are over 4,000 healthcare workers, first responders, and classroom educators in Calvert who have been prioritized for vaccination by the Governor. This leaves only a fraction of the number of doses needed to vaccinate the 15,000 seniors who live in our county, not to mention the tens of thousands of people age 40-64 with significant chronic health problems who have yet to be officially approved ....

Why is pre-registration being conducted early?
The majority of Calvert County residents in the COVID-19 vaccine priority group 1A have been vaccinated by the Calvert County Health Department (including front line hospital staff and healthcare workers, nursing home residents and staff, law enforcement and firefighters, EMS, all licensed, registered and certified health care providers, correctional health care staff and officers and front-line judiciary staff).

A one-time in-person registration is required each season. Walk-ins will not be accepted. Call Safe Nights of Calvert County beginning Dec. 10, 2020, at 443-486-8670 for more information.
Safe Nights is working with the Calvert County Health Department to safely operate with precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Program volunteers will provide instructions throughout program registration and participation.
