Support: Priti Patel was in Cumbria last week to visit Calvert Trust - and show support for Peter McCall in the upcoming Police and Crime Commissioner election A CUMBRIAN charity that helps disabled adults and children enjoy outdoor adventure has been visited by Home Secretary Priti Patel. She visited Calvert Turst near Bassenthwaite last week to show support for the charity - and also for Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Peter McCall, who hopes to be re-elected for the Conservatives after five years in the post. They were joined during the visit by Workington MP Mark Jenkinson. The Home Secretary thanked Mr McCall for his work in the role and for supporting organisations across Cumbria such as the Calvert Trust. ....

Home Secretary visits Calvert Trust at Bassenthwaite Priti Patel visits the Calvert Trust in Bassenthwaite The Home Secretary was welcomed to Cumbria by an MP and the county’s Police and Crime Commissioner. Priti Patel was greeted by Workington MP Mark Jenkinson and Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Peter McCall, to the Calvert Trust in Bassenthwaite. The Calvert Trust enables disabled adults and children, together with their families and friends, to achieve their potential through the challenge of outdoor adventure in the countryside. The Home Secretary visited the area to show her support for Peter McCall ahead of the upcoming Police and Crime Commissioner elections in May. ....
An intrepid group of students with additional needs have struck gold after tackling one of the toughest challenges for young people. Seven students from Beaumont College, for young people in Cumbria and Lancaster aged 18-25 with a broad range of physical and/or learning impairments, have been completing the gruelling Duke of Edinburgh Award, including a four-day expedition in a deluge of torrential rain and mudslides while their instructors were close by but out of sight. Five of the seven achieved gold, a coveted standard that only a small number of young people across the country manage to achieve, while two others are expected to complete the award soon. ....
