GALVESTON, Texas A Galveston City councilman died Wednesday after a brief hospitalization.
District 1 Councilman Rev. E.R. Johnson, 56, was hospitalized earlier this month and the city said he passed away early Wednesday morning. It s unclear what led to his death.
Johnson was elected in November and had been a longtime community leader as the pastor of Avenue L Missionary Baptist Church and owner of E.R. Johnson Family Mortuary in Galveston. ....

Galveston County registering residents for Moderna COVID-19 vaccinations

Starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, residents could register through the county’s health department at 409-547-4015.
“It’s (the vaccine) for everybody. You are as safe as your neighbor,” said Galveston Resident Tarris Woods.
Woods is a community activist, a former Galveston City council member and qualifies for the COVID-19 vaccine.
He hopes to register in Galveston County Wednesday to get it.
“I think it’s important for everybody to get the vaccination and then always stand and support science,” said Woods.
Galveston County received 400 doses this week.
Officials opened appointments to those who are 65 years and older. ....
