Some party leaders last Thursday resolved to choose ward officials by consensus. The resolution was reached during a meeting held at the Gawon Nama residence of Senator Aliyu Wamakko, who is the leader of the party in the state. But speaking with newsmen at the weekend, Hon Salame said the decision would not stand because other key members of the party were not carried along. He said, “The Speaker of the House of Assembly who is a card carrying member of APC and myself were not part of that decision. We only heard that some stakeholders of the party met at a private house of one of our leaders and took the decision. ....

The appointment, which was made on Friday at Sokoto during the annual festival of the sect, is seen as both a spiritual and temporal elevation of the deposed emir. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, says Nigeria will come out of its myriad of current formidable challenges and bounce back to be a stronger, as well as a more united nation.
