These Fieldcrest Townhomes for low income families on 34th Avenue in south Moorhead will be renovated after an $8 million in funds were announced Thursday, Dec. 17, by the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency. Walz announces $195M to increase access to affordable housing for Minnesota

(ABC 6 News) - Governor Tim Walz, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan and Minnesota Housing Commissioner Jennifer Leimaile Ho announced in an online presentation today that the Minnesota Housing board of directors approved staff recommendations of $195 million to create and preserve 2,387 homes throughout the state, including rental units and single-family homes.
The announcement outlined 73 developments that support more than 5,300 jobs and will leverage $334 million in private and local resources for more than $529 million in total development costs. Each of the projects included in today’s announcement were reviewed through a single common application process with funding from Minnesota Housing, the Metropolitan Council, Ramsey County and Greater Minnesota Housing Fund. ....

Housing study shows North Dakota has a problem with affordability

According to Flohr, interest rates through a program offered through his agency are at 2.6% is a far cry from the rate of 13% when the agency was started in 1982, and better than the 7% rate a decade ago.
It means better buying power, Flohr said.
He said he would be surprised if rates go up in the next couple of years. Adding to the housing outlook, Flohr said, is a good homebuilding community in Fargo and the state, and he hopes they can step up and help figure out more affordable home options.
His agency also offers attractive programs for first-time homebuyers. Operating through private lenders, the program can assist with down payments and closing costs, too. ....
