ALGONA Kossuth Regional Health Center has been named a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA).
The Top 20 Critical Access Hospital award winners are chosen from a larger list of Top 100 hospitals, which is evaluated and produced by the Chartis Center for Rural Health. Both the Top 20 and Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) are identified through the Hospital Strength INDEX®, the most comprehensive and objective assessment of U.S. rural and CAH performance based upon market, value-based and financial measures.
“Being chosen as a Top 100 hospital earlier this spring was a great honor, and I’m even more proud of our staff for earning a spot in the Top 20 out of all the critical access hospitals in the nation,” said Dar Elbert, CEO/CNO of Kossuth Regional Health Center. ....

Changes coming for COVID-19 vaccine clinics: New location, online sign-up coming soon

ALGONA Changes are underway for COVID-19 vaccine clinics in Kossuth County. Beginning in May, vaccine will be offered in a new location and online registration will soon be available for COVID-19 vaccine appointments.
For this week, individuals interested in receiving the vaccine may call the Kossuth County Call Center at 515-395-9111 on Thursday, April 22 between 10 a.m. and noon to make a vaccine appointment for Wednesday, April 28. This clinic will be the final one held at the Harley Davidson building on Highway 18.
In May vaccine clinics will move to the Kossuth County Fairgrounds, with plans for a drive-through vaccine station. This will likely be a short-term solution for delivering COVID-19 vaccine, as plans are being discussed to eventually hold vaccine clinics onsite at Kossuth Regional Health Center. ....

People with pre-existing conditions now eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations

ALGONA
– COVID-19 vaccine providers in Iowa, including Kossuth County Public Health, may distribute the vaccine to additional priority groups. This includes individuals 18 to 64 years of age with medical conditions that may increase the risk of severe illness from the virus. The COVID-19 vaccine is still available for people age 65 and older and others who meet the criteria in priority groups 1B and 1A.
The Call Center will be open on Thursday, March 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., scheduling appointments for a vaccine clinic on Wednesday, March 17. The Call Center phone number is 515-395-9111.
This change will help deliver the vaccine sooner to the people who are at a high risk for complications from COVID-19 due to a chronic health condition, said Lynzie Nilles, director of Kossuth County Public Health and Community Health and Hospice at Kossuth Regional Health Center.
