Government raises £1.1 billion from sell-down of NatWest Group shareholding

The Chancellor has authorised the sale of 580 million shares in NatWest at 190p per share raising a total of £1.1 billion. The process was managed by UK Government Investments.
This is the government’s fourth sale of its NatWest shareholding, and its second transaction in two months, bringing its level of ownership down from 59.8% to 54.8%. This sale represents further progress in the government’s plan to return institutions brought into public ownership as a result of the 2007-2008 financial crisis to private ownership.
The sale was completed by way of an overnight sale via an accelerated bookbuild, a competitive market facing process that involves selling shares to institutional investors. ....

LONDON (Reuters) â The British government has completed the sale of 1.1 billion pounds($1.55 billion) worth of shares in taxpayer-backed bank NatWest Group, reducing its shareholding in the lender bailed out over a decade ago in the financial crisis to under 55%.
UK Government Investments, the state-owned company that controls the shares, said the shares were priced at 190 pence, below Mondayâs closing price of 197.1 pence.

The British government kicked off the sale of a further stake in taxpayer-backed NatWest Group (NWG.L), edging it a step closer to private ownership more than a decade since its rescue in the financial crisis.
The Treasury said it plans to sell around 580 million shares, amounting to a 5% stake, reducing its ownership to 55%.
NatWest has remained majority state-owned following a 45 billion-pound ($63.65 billion) bailout in 2008. The government s last sale of stock to outside investors was in 2018. ....
