Cyprus` €1 billion government loan guarantee scheme will be credit positive for banks as long as they control their lending, international rating agency, Moody’s, has said.
 
In its last plenary session before the May 30 parliamentary elections, the House of Representatives approved the government bill for €1 billion in guarantees. ....

Non-performing loans (NPLs) in the Cyprus banking system rose marginally in January 2021, pushed upwards by interest capitalization at the end of the year.
 
According to data released by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC), NPLs, as defined by the EBA, amounted to €5.13 billion in January 2021, from €5.11 billion in end-2020, with the NPL to total loans ratio remaining unchanged at 17.7%. ....

New support measures amounting to €120 million to address the effects of the new COVID lockdown on employees and companies were announced by the Minister of Finance Constantinos Petrides  and the Minister of Labor, Welfare and Social Insurance Zeta Emilianidou.
Announcing the measures, the Minister of Finance said that this suspension of business must be the last one, given the acceleration of the vaccination program, which now concerns several younger ages. ....
